Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants are named for the way they build their nests in wood. This species is important in maintaining ecosystems but can be damaging to your home. The ants are most active from early spring until autumn. They will nest in dry timbers and moist wood. If the problem is addressed quickly, carpenter ants will not cause much damage.

Before using a chemical treatment, you can:

  • Take care of any wood rot
  • Trim branches away from the roof of your home
  • Prune bushes away from the side of your house and foundation
  • Don’t stack firewood next to the house
  • Seal any openings that can allow the ants inside your home

If you have a problem with carpenter ants, we can provide Boston ant control to help eliminate these pests and keep them from coming back. Once the colony becomes established, it is more difficult to eliminate. For this reason, you shouldn’t wait to call for help if you have carpenter ants.

Odorous Ants

These ants get their name from the unpleasant odor they emit when crushed. These ants are attracted to sweets and sources of moisture. They are often found near hot water pipes, leaky plumbing fixtures, under sinks, in wood damaged by termites, and near stacks of firewood or lumber outside.

Odorous ants don’t pose any known health risk but may contaminate food. To prevent these ants, keep countertops and kitchen floors clean, eliminate sources of moisture or standing water, stack firewood away from the house, and trim back branches and plants from near the house.

Pavement Ants

These little brown ants make their homes under cracks in pavement and inside structures. They can have large colonies inside walls or foundations. While they aren’t harmful, you can keep them out of the house by wiping up spills and crumbs in the kitchen, sealing any cracks in the foundation, and making sure no wood is located close to the house.

Crazy Ants

Crazy ants are dark brown or black and shiny. They move around in an erratic pattern, which is how the ants get their name. They feed on fruits, seeds, and insects. They often come inside when it is rainy or cold outside. Inside the house, they can often be found under floors, inside walls, and in potted plants. Outside they are often found near foundations.

If you suspect you have crazy ants or any other type of ant in your home, we can provide effective Boston and area ant control to help get rid of the pests and keep them away. We offer treatment according to your needs and our annual home system to help eliminate ants and other pests throughout the year.
