Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees are named for the way they bore into wood to create homes for raising their young. They are similar in appearance to bumblebees but have a bare and shiny abdomen. Unlike other bees, carpenter bees aren’t social and don’t live in colonies. The females bore circular holes into wood to create tunnels. If not treated, they can cause structural damage to your home.

To prevent carpenter bees:

  • Look for signs of bore holes in untreated wood
  • Paint or stain wood on all sides to prevent nesting
  • Schedule a professional inspection

Carpenter bees are most commonly a problem in the late spring and early summer months. If you suspect a problem with carpenter ants, get in touch with us right away for a *complimentary inspection and quote.

Honey Bees

Honey bees are an endangered essential pollinator. They are gold-brown and yellow colored, with a slender and oval shape. Although they are essential for food production, honey bees can also be dangerous to people with an allergy to their sting. While they are not as aggressive as hornets or wasps, they can become dangerous if the hive is threatened.

Our honey bee removal service focuses on safely removing and relocating the hive from your property by working with a certified local beekeeper. A chemical-free approach is always used to protect our customers’ health, while not harming the pollinators that are so essential to our food, our flowers, and the overall health of the environment.

Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets are recognizable by their distinctive yellow and black bands. They build nests or colonies in the ground or in eaves and attics. Yellowjackets are attracted to trash bins and tend to be most active in late summer and early fall.

To prevent yellowjackets you can:

  • Keep trashcans covered and empty them frequently
  • Make sure your screens are in good condition
  • Avoid perfumes that have a sweet smell

Read more about chemical-free ways to control yellow jackets here. If you notice a yellowjacket problem, we encourage you to contact us right away for an inspection. Don’t swat at yellowjackets because they will react aggressively. Severe reactions to stings are common, so seek medical attention if you are stung.

Bald-Faced Hornets

These pests are most common in the late summer. They build paper nests in trees, sheds, overhands, and other structures. Bald-faced hornets are aggressive and attack easily. They are able to sting repeatedly and the stings can itch and cause swelling.

Bald-faced hornets are beneficial for controlling other pets. If there is a nest near the ground or on your home, it should be removed to prevent stings. These are aggressive insects so it is not wise to try to remove the nest on your own. We offer services for bees and wasp control in Boston and surrounding areas for all types of stinging insects, including bald-faced hornets.
